The Albany Leadership Poetry Cafe and Art Show is an annual event showcasing the talented youth here at our school. The COVID-19 pandemic created many challenges and we were unable to come together in person for this event however, we were still able to celebrate our talented students. Mr. Negrich’s Studio Art Classes were able to reimagine their classwork during the at-home quarantine, which opened the door for new opportunities in learning and creativity. One of the studio art pieces was influenced by his lesson on Cindy Sherman’s Untitled Film Still. Ms. Hall and Mr. Sloman’s classes were able to utilize their 1:1 technology and unique software to share their poetry. Mr. Sloman’s University in the High School: Topics in English Studies Class in partnership with The University at Albany, created original poems based on the structure, prose, and influence of the famous Langston Hughes poem “A Dream Deferred”.
Albany Leadership students and teachers overcame the challenges of the pandemic in a way that allows us to share these amazing works of art with our larger community. Please click on the link here: 2021 Poetry Café and Art Show to view our 2021 Poetry Café and Art Show!
