Community Engagement

Community Engagement at Albany Leadership

Rooted in our core pillar of leadership through service, Albany Leadership is dedicated to fostering community engagement and empowering our scholars to create meaningful, lasting impacts in their communities.
We believe that fostering strong connections with local families, organizations, and stakeholders enriches the educational experience and prepares our students to lead with purpose and compassion. By actively participating in service initiatives and community partnerships, Albany Leadership ensures that every scholar not only excels academically but also develops the skills and values needed to become a positive force in the world.

Service Learning

Service learning is a teaching methodology that integrates service projects with classroom learning. It offers students the unique opportunity to get involved in the community and connect what they learn in the classroom with real-life issues. By putting students in a setting where they work to meet the needs of the community, service learning promotes social responsibility, broadens the students’ perspectives, and also cultivates interpersonal and leadership skills.

Student Requirement for Grades 8–12:
Integrated within ALCS regular academic curriculum are service Learning opportunities in which the student body is required to participate. Scholars in grades 8–12 are required to complete 100 hours of service learning before graduating in 12th grade.

Opportunities to Partner with Albany Leadership

Albany Leadership is always looking for more ways to partner with community members and organizations. Below is an overview of some of the ways we partner:

Service Learning:
As a high school graduation requirement, our students must complete a minimum of 100 hours of service while at Albany Leadership. If you are interested in having students volunteer at your organization, please reach out.
Internships:
The Albany Leadership Internship Program provides meaningful work experiences that give students an understanding of the skills and educational requirements needed in their career field of interest. It also introduces students to positive role models in the field who share their experiences and professional expertise. The program aligns with NYSED guidelines for the CEIP program and offers 12th-grade students the opportunity to explore real-world career development through:
  • Job Interviewing
  • Job Shadowing
  • Career Awareness
  • Work Experience
  • Professional Skill Development
Women’s Career Day:
Each March, we host women from various career backgrounds to speak with our students about their paths to success.
Speaking Opportunities:
In addition to our designated Women’s Career Day, we always welcome guest speakers to come in and talk with our students. If you have a passion for your work, please reach out to explore how we can bring you in to inspire our students.

Thank You to Our Current Community Partners

Albany Leadership could not achieve all that it does without the support of the local community. ALCS works with community partners for volunteer opportunities, after-school programming, classroom support, and everything in between.

In addition to the various community partners ALCS collaborates with, the school has dedicated volunteers who assist both in and out of the classroom. Albany Leadership welcomes one-time volunteers to share their experiences with students, as well as those who contribute consistently throughout the academic year.

Albany Leadership truly appreciates all current and future community partners and volunteers.
