Recently, Albany Leadership Social Worker, Tara Smades MSW, worked to implement a school-wide Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Curriculum. This project is intended to expand our students’ social-emotional skills and competency by providing our students with the tools necessary to achieve their individual goals and become productive adults in their families and communities. The SEL project also intends to help students develop self-awareness and self-management skills essential to success in school and in life, and to use social awareness and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships.
The SEL project is title “Making the Future CLEAR” as it infuses the Albany Leadership C.L.E.A.R. Values into the curriculum, mission, and activities. Our C.L.E.A.R. Values are College Readiness, Leadership, Empowerment, Accountability, and Resolve and Resilience. With the SEL project now underway, students are starting to learn more about the first competency which is self-awareness.
“Self-Awareness is the foundation of our self-esteem and is our intrinsic motivation to keep moving forward”– Tara Smades MSW
Albany Leadership has many goals and expectations for our students and their success. With this project, in particular, our goal is to ensure that students have a strong understanding of self in order to set and achieve their goals in the future.
